Setting up users and their roles is typically one of the first things any store will want to do, particularly those with multiple employees.  Here is a list of each permission and what they specifically correspond to.

Point of Sale & Orders

  • CART_VIEW - View carts and orders: Search and review orders, receipts, returns, fulfillment information, and order tags; send receipt and pickup-ready emails.
  • CART_EDIT - Create and manage carts and orders: Build and update carts, process payments, manage fulfillment, notes, tags, tracking, customer-display pairing, and buylist CSV imports. Does not independently permit refunds.
  • REFUND_CREATE - Process returns and refunds: Create returns and issue refunds against eligible orders.

Products & Inventory

  • PRODUCT_VIEW - View products and inventory: Search the catalog, view products, variants, pricing/history, inventory history, barcodes, and product exports.
  • PRODUCT_EDIT - Manage products and inventory: Create, update, archive, merge, and import products; manage variants, pricing overrides, images, barcodes, tax groups, sales channels, catalogs, and inventory records.

Customers

  • CUSTOMER_VIEW - View customer information: Search customer records and view contact details, store credit, customer ledger, loyalty balances/history, tags, and import status.
  • CUSTOMER_CREATE - Manage customers: Create and edit customers, merge duplicate records, import customers, adjust store credit/ledger balances, and manage customer tags. Despite the name, this covers editing as well as creation.

Registers & Tills

  • TILL_OPEN - Open tills: Start a till session.
  • TILL_CLOSE - Close tills: End a till session.
  • TILL_ADJUSTMENT_CREATE - Make till adjustments: Record cash/tender adjustments and tender deposits.

Transfers

  • TRANSFER_CREATE - Create and manage outgoing transfers: Create, edit, or delete draft transfers; make transfer-related inventory and average-cost adjustments.
  • TRANSFER_ACCEPT - Receive transfers: Receive some or all quantities from an incoming transfer.
  • TRANSFER_EDIT - Legacy/reserved permission: Currently selectable, but I could not find an active feature protected by it. Transfer draft editing currently uses TRANSFER_CREATE.

Store Administration

  • STORE_VIEW - View store operations and settings: Access store configuration information such as tills, tenders, taxes, locations, suppliers, settings, integrations, sync status, shipping, and notification configuration. Some supplier actions currently also fall under this permission.
  • STORE_EDIT - Manage store configuration: Change store/till settings, tenders, taxes, locations, integrations, pricing rules, notifications, shipping, catalog subscriptions, billing, and related administrative configuration.
  • USER_EDIT - Manage employee/register security: Pair and manage trusted registers, configure employee-PIN policies, view store employees, and assign employee PINs.

Reports

  • REPORT_VIEW - View and run reports: Access sales, trade-in, tax, tender, inventory, end-of-day, and custom reports; export supported report data.
  • REPORT_EDIT - Manage custom reports: Create and manage the store organization’s custom report definitions, composite reports, drafts, and report landing-page configuration. It also makes the Reports area visible.

Wiki / Help Content

  • WIKI_VIEW - Access the wiki: View and search wiki content. Users may create or edit content only where that content’s ownership and audience rules allow.
  • WIKI_ADMIN - Administer the wiki: Includes WIKI_VIEW; permits creating and broadly administering wiki content, including ownership, editor access, audience settings, and cross-store ownership where authorized.
